Default Weird click under dash

HOWDY FOLKS: I am getting ready to head out to Spring Training later this
week (Arizona) with my son and I have been noticing a weird click under the driver's side dash every few days for maybe 10-15 minutes at a time.
I also have noticed that the factory stereo (treble/bass) sliders are amber lighted for a couple days and then no lights on other days. I know this is
probably not related; but just wanted some feedback before I head out on
a 7-8 hr drive later this week.

2000 XJ 4X4 86,000 miles thanks, Randy

Default WEIRD CLICK ..

That was a good one .... But did not answer the question.
I bought it a couple months ago and it did not have the click then or
the radio issue. Randy

The only thing I can think of doing is to stick your head under the dash while you hear the noise and find it's source. Does anything stop working when you hear the noise?
The factory radios are flaky. I wouldn't worry much about the lights. I assume the rest of the radio stays lit?

+1, that's what you need to do. It sounds like it could be a relay.

Is the click random or does it have a rhythm to it?

i.e. does it go click-click-click-click or is it a clicketyclick--clickclickclick-click-clickclick?

Does it only happen when you're stationary or only when you're moving?

RED82 --- just giving you a hard time back. I was not mad -- it was funny to me.
It seems to only happen when driving and unless I want to drive blind; finding it will not be easy. I tried sticking my hand under there, but no luck yet. It does not seem to have a rhythm to it.
I was thinking some kind of relay also. I have been waiting for it to happen in the driveway ??? thanks, Randy

Yeah, that's tough if it only happens while driving. Any chance of having a passenger try to find it while you drive?

RGIBBS -- yes , I think they might be similar "problems".

That is one of the issues when you purchase a used car -- no track record with it to know what is important and what is not. I guess I will
just live with it for now.
With my Tacoma, I know every sound there is and when to fix and when to ignore. It has been 20 yrs since I had an XJ and about 8 since we had
a Grand Cherokee .....

thanks, Randy
