Default Water pump removal some ?'s

I will be changing out my water pump and thermostat on my 94' grand cherokee 6 cylinder tomorrow. Couple questions:

Where or how do you remove the serpetine belt?

What are your thoughts on lucas transmission slip fix? My trans makes a vibration when in drive. I was told Lucas products are top notch so I figured I would try it and see what happens.

There is no such thing as a quick fix fluid that will cure your tranny vibration, it will just mask the problem till your transmission explodes

My 98 has an idler pulley below the Power steering pump. loosen that and the belt will come off.

Thanks for the responses. I'm about ready to go get started on this. As far as the trans additive, it's going to explode anyways so I'd rather mask the problem until then. It's not bad at all but annoying.

Your tires may be off balance or you need a new joint, it probably won't be the transmission. As for the water pump pull the electric fan, then pull power steering pump but leave it connected just push it aside. The belt should be loose then pull the idler pully. Drain the radiator. Then pull the top hose then under pull the lower rad hose from the water pump. By pulling the lower hose from the pump you can aim the remainder flow in the tube into the tub your collecting antifreeze. If your doing the pump use alot of high temp rtv, felpro gasket, get a new 180 thermostat and new upper and lower hose. You already have it off just change it. Dont forget to drill out the thermostat, so it can bleed better at 12 o clock and 6 o clock. Reassemble and be done, you just need to refill and burp it. One good idea is if you have the pump off
drill and tap on the side and put a bleeder, I think one could fit. Otherwise you'll need to refill the radiator with the lower hose on and when alot of the water starts to come through push it up onto the water pump, to get some air out of the hose.

Rub a little wd-40 on the inside of all your hoses so you can push them on easily and use a flat head to chisel/pry your hoses off.

well i got the water pump on. i just used the gasket that came with the water pump and sprayed it with some gasket adhesive. I also changed out the thermostat with the stock 195 and gasket. I did do the upper and lower rad hoses too since they were off and put on a new belt. I flushed the system and added new coolant. should be good. now i will have to look into the vinration issue. i also think it may be a joint.

There is no heat to thin the oil out and there is alot more movement going on inside a real engine to spread the oil out. Plus the lucas additive is diluted by 5 other quarts of oil.

To the OP, These additives could help extend the life. It should not cause the transmission to blow any time sooner than it is already going to. If anything it could lubricate better and cause less friction.

i think i might just add the lucas,. my friend said he had the same issue on his jeep and it fixed it. this was 2 years ago and still going. however, if this was in bmw i would not use an additive. big difference in vehicles though.

In the end though, there both still nuts and bolts. The difference is in the price tag.
