On my 1999 Jeep Cherokee the heater is not blowing Hot air. I have flushed it twice now, with now significant improvement, and my mechanic wants $800 to replace the heater.

My question how difficult is to do it myself, and is thier detailed intructions on how to do it??

Replaced the heater core and blend gate. 8 hours of labor=$400 + $157 in parts. That's in a rural area, but heaters ain't cheap to fix period is what I'm told. Good luck with yours.
EDIT: To answer your question, I don't know about the parameters of doing it yourself. Mine was repaired during transition of ownership and I didn't initiate the repairs. I have the factory manual and can look up what it entails, but I don't think it gives difficulty ratings or timing estimates.

To replace a heater core the dash must be removed, seats to clear, steering column dropped down, lots of unplugging of connectors, major pain. $800 not bad for the work required. If the heater core is bad and while he's in there make sure he replaces all seals and check A/C for leaks.
