Default Water in passenger floorboards ONLY after hard rain

Wanted to come here with an issue I have been chasing for a little while now and almost have it solved up but not quite yet.

I have been having a leak somewhere that was causing water to settle inside my passenger side floorboard. Took it to a windshield place and they put in a new one and said that the way the other people had sealed it was causing it to leak and sure enough, it stopped leaking...at least I thought.

Now, the only time it leaks is when it rains hard...and I mean hard. A steady shower can last hrs and it will not leak, but if it pours down hard, I have a small little line in my floorboard that looks like the water has run down the fan shroud and is dripping into my floorboard. Anybody have any idea what might be causing the leak only when it rains extremely hard?

Its a 98 Cherokee Classic btw.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks man...yea, if anything mine has been parked uphill. We are having a pretty steady rain right now and I bet it will be dry as well...only when it pours does it do it. I didn't know if anybody knew of any drains or channels that are prone to get blocked or anything that I might should look at first.

Not very likely, but really easy to check. With the hood open, back there beside the hinge there is a 5 inch section that seems to depend on body putty to seal. You could run the hose on there real low for a bit and see if you can duplicate it.

Same thing happened to me! Thought it was the windshield, and got it re sealed. But sure enough, after a decent rain storm I had water under the carpet on the passenger side. I was never able to figure it out before I sold the Jeep. I would check the blower motor thats mounted on the firewall on the pass side. I heard water can leak through/around those into the cab.

It is a known issue. I have that in my 93 jeep. There is an air vent under the vent grill where the wipers are. It is impossible to reach it from the top side. You need to dismantle the dashboard to reach it.
Basically the seal is broken and letting the water through.

I had a Rambler with a pan there where the water is caught and the air goes around for the heater ect. There, it's drain wasn't plugged, the pan its self rotted.

I might see that the the AC evaporator drain tube is free. Who knows, sitting there in the rain maybe it leaks into that! Anyway something to do anyway and rule it out. Or not..

I had a similar issue and it was water getting through the boot that was shielding the wires going to the door. If you have an amp or any other wires going through the firewall check those too obviously.

Mine leaks from the tops of the doors. I've heard you can fix it by rolling down the window and pushing in on the top of the window frame gently (with the door open), because they get a little bent out of shape after years and years of use. For me, it leaks through the tops of the doors, down the windows, through the insides of the doors, down through the drain holes on the bottom of the doors, and then onto my carpet. I observed this during one of those touch-free car washes. Worth a look.
