Default Water Getting in hatch area

Hi there so i lifted up the carpet and low and behold a bit of rust...So water is getting in there and I think I have found out where it is coming from

between the plastic trim pieces....my initial thought would be to put a nice long bead of silicone between the trim and weather stripping....I was curious to see if anybody else had come across this...

What year is your XJ? The rear hatch was redesigned in 97. All XJs up to 96 have are prone to leaking at the hatch. The seal around the glass was designed to attach to the glass and the be sealed into the hatch itself. This seal will seperate from the hatch at the top. To check it open your hatch and apply a little pressure to the top inside of the glass. Chances are it will push away from the hatch.

It's a 96...it was raining today and I took out some groceries and indeed it was leaking a little bit from the glass on the upper right corner....bizzare......maybe a coat of silicone will do the job?

ah yes same here.... but I still think there is water coming in from the bottom seal as it is the only wet spot on the inside of the trim...looks like it will be fun with silicone and hose time
