Default warn winch technical help

i have a warn m8000 and had it for about a year and the thing works awesome , got me and some others out of some tough spots , but yesterday it was all working fine then all of a sudden the free spool lever stopped working , i now have to wind it all the out with the remote , can i take that end apart and clean it out and hopefully unjam it ? i never taken a winch apart so im not sure whats involved , im not an idiot when it comes to mechanics , i do all my work myself , plus i wouldnt mind cleaning up some stuff inside , its been making some funny noises but doesnt affect the performance, so it probly needs to be cleaned up a bit , i just wanna know what im getting myself into before i take it apart and parts start flinging out all over the place lol

Have you ever had a winch where the free spool stoped working ? And what would cause it so I kinda know what area to give special attention too when I'm looking at it

Warn also has a lifetime warranty. You might want to check into it.

The free spoll on my X8000i froze up like your describing. Dont force it.

I took it apart and greased up the drum inside that engages and disengages it.. i had never been inside one before and it worked out well for me. The lever has an eccentric at the bottom that slides the drum.. take your time and you'll get it.

I used wheelbearing grease i had on shelf. No problems the last three years.

Your not gonna put alot in, basically clean up whats in there as it's probably gummed up, and coat the parts with fresh slick grease.
