Let me start by saying, that I have not tried this myself. Matter of fact, I've never even removed a diff cover yet. I will soon though. Anyway on to what I want to say.

They make it look fairly doable at home on tv. The only problem is accessing the special tools it takes to do it properly.

I'm sure there is loads of info and how-to's online. It would just take a little searching. What I was referring to about on tv, is that Ian on Xtreme 4X4 did a complete step by step install on a D44 for an International Scout a week or two ago. I was impressed at how he explained it to be as easy as it is. The problem is there were some special tools needed to complete the job properly. If I'm remembering correctly you need a dial indicator, an inch/pound wrench, a pinion depth check tool, and a press. There could be one or two more, but those are the big ones.

if you wanna go 6inchs and up id go with the rock krawler long arm set up. you can either do a 3 link set up or a 4 link yes its pricy but if you look at what your getting its well worth it. solid steel control arms.

Me neither. My wife's uncle has a shop across the street from me. He used to have a small machine shop setup when we got married, but he has since sold that all off to move the business another direction. He still has some of the tools, though. Hopefully a dial indicator and an inch/pound wrench, but who knows. His newest purchase that I have access to, is a Vortex bedliner machine.

Drewdertuder, installing a new gear set should be done by a professional or with the supervision of someone with knowledge and experience. It is easy to take everything apart and throw on some new parts. Without the proper setup tools (which are not cheap) you could get everything back together and will work. The downside is if it's not properly aligned you will wear out your new gear alarmingly fast, and possibly damage other parts inside your axle costing you more to repair or replace it down the road.

i would not suggest doing this for a first time at your home with no experience you might want to take an automotive class at school or at a local college and get some practice it can be a very hard job to do at home with no know how. do you have you any mechanical knowledge
