Default Voltage problem?

Everything runs ok - seems fine and works perfectly,

However! My voltage gague sits at 14 for a few seconds than drops to where it would be about 13.5 and this is the weird part! When i put it in reverse it drops, turn on the lights it drops and anything else it drops to about 13volts but theres no change in the driving.. is that normal?

I just replaced the alternator with a tested new one

yes its normal its just responding to voltage draw and engine rpm change
as long as it doesn't go under 12v

Totally normal. That is just your gauge doing it's job. It will show a voltage drop each time you turn something else electrical on. Anything below 13-13.5 is bad, though. You have to be making more than 12 volts otherwise you'll start drawing off the battery.

My gauge is wrong... it shows 12 volts, but the system is actually running at 13.4 (confirmed with VAT40 current and voltage tests).

I don't care that it's wrong, because it is consistantly wrong... meaning I can still see a change in voltage when the system fails.
