Default Visit to machine shop

So, I'm about to drop off my engine block at the machine shop for some work. This is my first rebuild, and I want to make sure I give them everything they need to do this correctly. I'd like to get some feedback on my service to do list. Please feel free to respond with other information I should consider including. This is an I6 4.0, completely stock. Note: I have already measured cylinder bores for out of round and taper (they are outside of specifications), but I still want the shop to double check my measurements. Here is what I plan on giving them:
  • Hot tank
  • magnaflux the block
  • Check the deck for flatness
  • Check the cylinders for out of round and taper
  • Rebore 0.03" over and hone for cast iron rings (Mahle 51870CP.030 Piston Ring Set)
  • Install new camshaft bearings
  • Remove rods from old pistons
  • Attach old rods to new pistons (Silv-o-lite 3241HC.030)

If you are changing pistons, they will also need to rebalance everything. What about polishing the journals on the crank? Valve job for the head?

The head is at the shop now getting valve work done. Crank comes next. But, I didn't know about rebalancing after changing pistons. Thanks!

Do you plan on installing the freeze plugs ?? I'd let them do it while it's there...

Let them install the cam bearings. If you're not a mechanical guy this is a no no for you to do yourself. You are having the head checked/ cut for flatness I assume?
