I had the same problem with my 92. After spending much time and money I finally narrowed it down to the stabilizer shock which is a relatively cheap fix. Word of advice though, dont cheap out. Buy a good quality one.

I used to get violent shakes,
but then the doctors changed my meds.
I don't like violent shakes. I like vanilla better.
Sorry, in a silly mood right now. (must be the meds....HAHAHA)

Steering stabilizer? If thats all then that would be like 60 bucks for a kit I wish that was the only part Im thinking more. I am the third owner and the past 2 did the bare min to keep this ol girl on the road I love it I have always wanted one and now I stand to lose my dream rig.

Steering Stab. is a remedy to help control front end shakes.
First check your tires... Same kind/size/pressure?
Then Front end components:
Tie Rod ends ok?
Ball Joints ok?
Pitman Arm ok?
Then check the wheel bearings, axle shaft u-joints, and anything else that is left up front.

You are seeing "the body shift a little before the steering catches". That is classic symptom of loose or worn track bar. I gurantee you that your problem is in the track bar. Once you get a good track bar, with good upper ball joint and good lower bushing, and torqued to OEM specs, your death wobble will be gone.

x2 or checkin your tires. sometimes this can come from something as simple as it being out of alignment or your tires being unbalanced.
could be the tracbar too, they tend to wear over time.
