I was thinking the same thing this morning that it probably was not the problem. This weekend or next am going to do my rear main and install my .75 in coil spacers so when i do that i will go through the entire front end and see if i find anything.

my dad has a 1996 Stock Jeep cherokee and he hit a bump driving on the road one night and his truck starting vibrating like crazy. The motor mounts looked fine and went over everything, we thought it was the tranny mount, wasnt that either. He also got bad vibes in Reverse with the brake on.

The thing was if you looked at the motor it tilted to the left, i got under the tuck to see the bolts for the engine mount to the engine block sheared off and the engine is leaning on the distributor. Just an idea since you went 4wheelin then got vibes.

To lazy to look through but check your transmission mount.

OP said he replaced and checked the motor/tranny mounts, otherwise I would've said this right off the bat.

Check the transmission to engine block bolts to make sure they are tight. I've had the bolt above the starter work loose before, and it caused a vibration just like you describe.

Had another idea. Could too much backlash in the rear end cause a vibration and how would i check that?

Also I did not change the trans mount I just inspected it and it was good and tight but i am going to replace it anyways since both of you have mentioned that.

I found what was wrong the trans mount was bad i replaced and no more vibration. I guess you can't really tell if they are bad by just looking at them. Thanks to everyone who contributed and helping figure this out!

Lol wow, I was under the impression from your very first post you had checked/replaced the motor/tranny mounts. You fail

Glad to see you resolved it though.
