UPDATE:
I was asking this because pan was apparently rebuilt with grey RTV. This is why it was leaking-- It just degraded. Anyways, I ended up deciding to do without RTV and bought a Felpro TOS18685 gasket because I tore the one it came with. No leaks so far!

Hey again y'all,
My 1999 XJ daily driver's transmission pan has been leaking recently. It was rebuilt after failure about 45,000 miles ago with ATF4, but I noticed a bit of very-slightly-dark red fluid around some of the bolts last night and a degraded seal around the pan from visual inspection. I've ordered a new filter and gasket and am changing the fluid to DEX/MERC. The filter I ordered is an ACDELCO TF271 ( ), which is described to have "felt filter fibers with phenolic resin." Usually, the reviews are helpful in telling me if I should even use a sealant, but no sealant usage is described. Some sources say don't use RTV. Other sources, like JeepForums, are telling me to use some kind of red sealant, but again it's not specific to the AW4. On one of the BleepingJeep videos for a different transmission/gasket, Vasoline was used to help keep it in position while installing the pan, so I'm at a loss and would like a clear answer as I'm terrified to mess this up.

Can you guys point me to what kind of sealant, if any, that I should be using to put this "felt fiber" gasket on for the AW4?
