Default Trimming Rear Fenders.... Can I use sealant instead of welding

I've cut my front fenders already, no problem. Now I want to trim the rear fenders just above the holes for the flare. If the body separates, can I use a sealant to fill in the gap or will I have to weld?

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the help guys. I've been an XJ owner since March of '09 and a member of this forum since November of '09. I do as much work as I can myself. That's 60% of the fun of being an XJ owner. (The other 40% is being able to put your work to the test on the trail of course). I don't have a huge stock of tools. I pretty much buy them as I need them and it's slowly starting to mount up. But this site is by far the best tool in my bag. Since I joined, I post here or search here before attempting anything myself and it has proven to be an excellent decision every time.

Thanks again.
