Hi ET JEEP, appreciate ur info...
Yes...I do hv the basics....usually the fuel pump will stop pumping after the abs light goes off...right?
But my fuel pump keep on pumping as long as I do not off the key...
Will check the relays 2moro as I m in offce today:-(
Yesterday...upon checking the engine...found 1 blue wire not connected to anything out from the bunch of wires from the alternator...
searched around the area and found no other wire to be connected to.
also..the previous owner, tapped a brown/yellow wire from the pcm and ground it....I wonder why?
I will upload both pics soon...
So far...I hv cleaned all connectors with contact spray cleaner...
Will insulate all exposed wires soon as I realised that this monster engine is damn hot...
Thank you.....will update when I upload the pics...

Have you checked the basics. Are you getting a spark? Does the fuel pump turn on? Are fuses and relays good?
When you turn the key to on, you should have power at the ASD relay and the fuel pump relay. This power goes to the control pin on each relay, usually pin 86. You should also have contant power at pin 30 of each relay.
The PCM provides the ground for these relays. When you crank the engine, the PCM starts reading info from the sensors, cam sensor, crank sensor, etc ready to start. The ASD powers the coil, injectors, altenator and a few sensors. Check your O2 sensor wiring. It tends to get shorted on the exhaust. If this happens you ASD circuit is shorted. You can crank the engine and listen to your injectors with a mechanics stethoscope. You should hear then click if the ASD circuit is good and they are getting power.
You need to check to see what you do have then search for what you do not have. Sometimes cleaning the PCM connector pins and socket helps. Also, ty-wrapping the connector seems to help. This is what some have done with engine starting and running problems. A good PCM ground is also important.

Don't worry about the blue wire at the alternator right now either. I'll look at mine when the sun comes up and get back to you.
I think that the previous owner had the same problem as you. The grounded wire attached to the brown/yellow wire may have been done so as not to require opening of the loom and tracing down a faulty ground. I'd remove the tape from that splice and look at the connection. Make sure that the brown/yellow is grounded for certain. See if that will give you a steady Check Engine Light in the RUN position. Again, I'll look at mine this morning.

You're right. The fuel pump is supposed to run for only a few seconds when you turn the key to the ON (or RUN) position. I don't think that issue is related to your current problem though.

Hi 96tudor,
Thank you for checking ur cherokee to inform me....
I hv found the problem but yet to confirm fully....
Did connection check at all the relay and fuses...all ok...
But it seems that the ASD relay tends to open up fast...
ignition ON...when I jiggle with the relay...I will get complete engine check...
The monster fired up...wah ha ha
after the first start...when I kill the engine...it fired up with no problem..
BUT...there is always a but...he he
When I switch off the engine and leave it for > 30 mins...
NO check engine light...again I hv to jiggle the relay and I will get a complete engine check light...will fire up...
will get a spare relay soon...
I hope it is the relay....but i believe it is more than that:-(
I hv checked the wire...yes it is grounded....looking thru the wiring diagram...brown/yellow is to the park/neutral position switch...
Update u further....thx:-)

Glad you are having progress. Hope it is as simple as changing out the relay. You might try swapping with another relay to see how it acts. Not the fuel pump relay.
As for the brn/yel wire, you can remove the engine starter relay and remove the wire from the ground connection and do a continuity test. If you get continuity, that is the wire. The park/neutral switch just provides a path to ground when the transimission is in park or neutral.
The PO may have had a problem with it and just chose to ground the wire. If you can crank the engine in other than park or neutral that is a clue.

Hi guys...OK...my ecu failed me this time....
It is super difficult to get a replacement here...did try to get a refurbished unit in ebay but the company says that they will not sell it to me as it is not a US or Canada specs...haiz...is it true?
The jeeps are assembled here...all the parts are from US.....duh!
Managed to get from a chop shop here...
Now this is wat I m facing....
Once key is on ON position...all check lights goes as normal....
the gen and engine checklight will not turn off but will dim down....
Engine will fire up with one turn....keh keh keh...a smile at least on my face:-)
Do I need to reset the ecu?(if there is such an option)
My old ecu will give me intermittent check engine light...as earlier post...
Thank you for your inputs....on leave now to spend a little more time with this cherokee...lol.

Read the forum and checked all the guidelines given....last stop.....fuel filter...
Just cleaned my park/neutral safety switch....now I hv the reverse lights on...yehaaaa....
Thanks so much guys for the guidance....makes me learn about this monster....
Guess what.....I hv started loving it.....
