So recently i discovered that the vacuum line attached to my 97 cherokee has broke away from the vacuum reservoir. Is there a possiblity to plug that line at the break and allow the motor to build its own supply and run normally? Or does that specific motor need the reservoir? The pink highlight is what i am referring to!!!
When you open the throttle, engine vacuum drops. So accelerating on a highway, from a light/stop sign, or climbing a hill, can lose enough vacuum to disable your CC or flip your HVAC vents to defrost. Once you back off the throttle, engine vacuum will increase and operation of the vents/CC should be restored. You may have noticed these symptoms already. Capping the line is OK as long as you're aware of this behavior until you're ready to repair it. Repair may be as simple as getting a piece of vacuum tubing and patching the line.
My vacuum ball was cracked when I purchased my 96 XJ, I picked up a good one at a U pull it parts place and relocated it into the engine compartment as I was replacing the front bumper. Easy to do and cheap...the real fun comes when the vacuum line gets brittle where it goes through the firewall. Easier to reroute a new line then to work with a crumbling line there. Good Luck!
If the rubber elbow is what broke. Parts stores should have a selection or an organized kit with rubber vacuum elbows to fix that
If the plastic hard line is what broke, parts stores should also have the correct sized rubber vacuum line to slide over the broken section as a plug or even just run the plastic line into the rubber vacuum line and then cut the rubber line to length and run it directly to your vacuum pod eliminating the elbow completely
Buying a vacuum pump because your line won't engage with the pod would be ridiculous btw
Corky and That Jeep Guy XJMJ nailed it. Go to your local parts store and look in the Dorman HELP! isle/section and grab a box of assorted vacuum fittings. For less than ten bucks, you will have it fixed.
