The entire Heat/AC control module in your dash works off the vacuum system. If you have cruise control, you're going to be SOL'd without it. I think the transfer case runs off it too. So yeah i'd leave the thing on. What you can do to keep it out of sight is extend the existing vacuum line, and bolt the resivuar to wherever you want.

It controls your cruise and your vents inside the Jeep. Without that canister you won't have any air coming by the top of your dash. I moved mine right over the oil filter in the engine bay, it's zip tied there. I moved it there when I changed my bumper. You have enough of the stock vacuum line to move it there.

When I did my new front bumper I moved the vac canister to the engine bay using a piece of vac hose to reach where I wanted it. The horns I relocated highter up on the fender brace so they would be hidden behind the new bumper. HTH.

i moved it 5 min. ago and i moved it near my oil filter and distributer,i actually broke the line,it had a hole in it but when i moved the line it broke completely,i repaired it and now my xj starts ALOT better and faster, could a hole in that hose have made it take longer to start?

I pulled my vacuum football and just plugged the hose for the HVAC in the intake. It still works at cruising speed, just really slowly. Sometimes if I'm changing vent modes i sharply let my foot off the gas the the mode snaps where it needs to. The vacuum ball just makes sure it works %100 of the time.
