Default Vacuum disconnect question

I'm wondering if the vacuum disconnect can be made manual? I think I saw an article awhile back but I cant seem to find it now. The advantage to this would be that there wouldnt be a question about whether or not the 4wd disconnected when the lever is moved. This might just be a newbie question but I'm trying to learn jeeps after 10 years of mustang building.

I dont want it full time 4wd as most of my driving is on the street, I also want to have 4-high and 4-low. How do you replace the vacuum with a cable and how is it actuated?

google "posi-lock" they are all over the place. it replaces your vacuum acuator a **** and cable is mounted in the caband runs to the axle. when you put your rig in 4wd, you then pull the **** to engage the front axle. this is good as well because you can engage 4lo and leave it the front axle disengaged for 2 wheel low.

The only trails I know of are the kaolin mine roads, but they can be exciting after a good rain.......or the snow last weekend!

Nope, they got rid of it. You have a straight axle with no disconnect.
Front

  • Dana 30 high pinion - reverse cut - 27 spline, 1.16" diameter shafts, 7.13" ring gear - used '84-'99 (some axles through '91 are vacuum disconnect, '92+ are non-disconnect, '89-'95 with ABS have 5-297x u-joints, all '95+ have 5-297x u-joints, all others have 5-260x u-joints)
  • Dana 30 low pinion - standard cut - 27 spline, 1.16" diameter shafts, 7.13" ring gear, 5-297x u-joints - used '00-'01
  • Dana 44 high pinion - available on XJs sold in South America.
