I have an 88 4.0 and I was wondering what the vacuum thing on the left of the engine is called... I noticed that it looked like it was leaking oil or something out of it and It didnt make sense because it has vacuum lines going to it! Please help I am not very experienced with vacuum stuff. I also just put on a cold air intake and was wondering what to do with the two hoses that used to plug into the back of the air box. Thanks in advance!

The air hoses in the back need to hook into the intake.
The vacuum canister is just that. All it does is hold a vacuum while the engine is off so the system doesn't have to build from scratch everytime. Some people just eliminate it and plug the line

You are a treasure trove of diagrams and pictures Sir! He has got to be talking about the Vapor recovery canister right? What would be leaking from this? Fuel from "Topping off"? Never seen one leak fluids before so was curious.
Thanks for all the pics and diagrams!

Not sure what he's talking about. He talks about a cold air intake, left side of engine compartment etc. Let's let him peruse the pics and find out.

Could be caused by (and we still have no clue what we're dealing with) valve COVER issues. See Tip 25.
And BTW, put your vehicle info in your signature or with your avatar please.

Doubtful as this engine has a CCV system rather than PCV. And 4.0s seem to run forever with the original valve guides and rings.

I have been meaning to do that but keep getting side tracked. I tried to upload my avatar when I first registered and repeatedly got a "Wrong file type" from the uploader even though it was just a .jpg . As we spoke of before, I found a way to work around that and will get that done ASAP. I apologize for being tardy in doing this. I am always multitasking when online and keep overlooking it. I stand chastised and will not reply again until I this done Sir
