Hi All,

I've got a 1998 Grand Cherokee Orvis with 3132K on the clock its my DD.

Problem, it is using approx 1 litre of water a month in its coolant system.

Rad cap new, no leaks as far as I can see from water pump area, no signs of water in the engine oil, no water on the drive when its standing still, and none in the carpet.

So is 1liter a month average and OK??

Where do I check next????


All help thoughts appreciated.

Using any water at all is not normal.
It's going somewhere.
- does the windshield tend to fog up, maybe a bit more than other vehicles? (leaking heater core)
- is there more steam from the exhaust than you might expect? (cracked head/head gasket)
- is the coolant overflow tube (from the rad filler neck to the overflow tank) in good condition? Check it carefully, the whole length.
Does the overflow tank leak?
Look for signs of leakage - you may not see the actual leakage, but the glycol usually leaves traces of crap where it has been leaking.
It's going somewhere.
