1)loosen the bolts and it's loosen the bite on the upper half.
2)try using the lower half ot the old seal to push out the upper hafve by reinserting it and tappin the end. dont' use a screw driver or awl, you'll damage the seal seat if not careful
3) tell you dad to go inside while you do this.

It sticks hard, I know, just did it on mine a few months ago. drop the pan, drop the windage tray, and drop only that main bearing cap in the rear. you're going to have to carefully use a center punch and a hammer. it's tedious, but it does come out that way. turning the new one in is a little bit of a pain too, lol. Like others have said, it will do you no good to loosen the rest of the mains or drop the transmission. your seal is sticking to the block, not the crank.

Now that it's out, use a big pipe cleaner and solvent to clean out the channel. There shouldn't be any kind of glue or sealant used up in the top half. Once it's cleaned out, blow it dry and hey wait a sec.. have a look here :-)

i did, i think it was replaced before i got a bunch of yellow crap out the groove. The oil pan had no gasket on it and what ever they used before was almost like cement. ended up mangling the oil pan to the point that it is no were near usable again!!!

make sure you grease that new seal before you put it in, and use rtv on the ends on the lower half.
