Question update

so i have sparked after replacing the coil the distributor rotor and the distributor cap. now when i put the dist. wires in the right order i hear a loud pop coming from the throttle body. backfire? it also smells like burnt hair after it pops haha

is it a backfire i hear coming from my throttle body?

you brought the motor to tdc on compression stroke and pointed the rotor to no 1 cyl using this pick the oic in the haynes manual is incorrect note the placement of dist cap screws

this is wrong it the haynes note dist cap screws

ok i have the chilton manual. would the popping sound coming from the throttle body be a backfire?

sounds like you're 180 off on the distributor

yes backfire, you have the distributor in wrong and it's firing at the wrong times.

bring the timing mark on front cover to tdc '0' then turn the dist 180
