Default Up Country Pkg

Is there an easy way to find out if an XJ has the Up Country Pkg? VIN? I have a new (to me) '99 Classic and it seems to set a little higher than what we would expect (that's a good thing). The front wheel wells measure 19" from hub center to trim at the wheel well. That's about 1.5" lift over the factory stock numbers. It's unlikely the P.O. would have modified.

Thanks,
Larry

I think that package also included skids and tow hooks.

Could also email the vin to Jeep for a build sheet, there's a link on the site under "For Owners". Dealers can also print them off instantly.

This is from my 2000 Jeep Sales Brochure:

To increase off road prowess, the optional Up Country Suspension Group for 4WD models adds: tow hooks (two front and one rear); steel skid plates for the front suspension, the transfer case and fuel tank; a Trac-Lok limited slip differential - which automatically distributes the rear torque to the rear wheel with the most traction, and an off road suspension.
In addition to that my 2000 UpCountry did not come with an UPCountry emblem or rear sway bar.

Its possible the PO installed a budget lift. Are there front coil spring spacers or extended non-oem rear leaf shackles?

If still in doubt do what elwood said, get a VIN build printout from Chrysler.

http://www.jeep.com/webselfservice/jeep/index.html

Go to "Equipment Listing"

Enter VIN in the smaller text box in the middle of the screen.

Default It does have Up Country Pkg

Did the Equipment Listing per WIZARDPC's recommendation and it does, indeed, have the Up Country Pkg (including Trac-Loc differential). What a bonus.

Thanks to all for contributing.

easy way to tell, check the glovebox. if theres a tag about needing friction modifier in the differential oil, then it has the LSD, which is a good indicator that it could have the upcountry.

the only way to be "certain" is to email Jeep the Vin. but if you have the LSD and no rear sway, those are pretty good signs.

The Up Country springs on my special-ordered-by-me 1994 ZJ had part number labels wrapped around the springs. Those part numbers corresponded to the appropriate Up Country spring package w/ my combination of other vehicle options.

My 97 has has a small up country sticker in the rear side window. It has the limited slip, front and rear skid plates, and no rear sway bar.

When I special-ordered my '94 ZJ and my '97 ZJ, I selected the Up Country Suspension Group as one option and I selected the Rear Trac Lock as separate options.

When I ordered my '95 I was able to select the Trac loc seperate. When I ordered my '01 I had to order the up country to get it. I believe the up country gets a trans cooler as well,if you added the trailer package you'd get the harness and hitch, but if you didn't order the up country you would get the cooler, hitch and harness

You mean they sold auto jeeps without a trans cooler? No wonder some people have overheating issues.

I thought they all came with trans coolers regardless if it had the trailering or up country package. Every one I have seen has a trans cooler unless it is a manual.
