Duralast distributor. I did the same thing. The distributor itself is good quality but....the cam sensor that comes with it? Absolute trash. I had similar problems.
Went to the junk yard and pulled a Mopar sensor from an old jeep distributor and cured it completely. (no codes)

Not saying this is your problem, you should also check fuel pressure, codes, tune up, etc etc etc

Thanks for the suggestion. It's running great right now so I'm going to leave it alone for a bit to confirm. My fuel pressure is good, no codes, and tuned up twice. Of all those things, nothing made much of a difference . If all things, the dumb oil sending unit corrected the problem (for now)

I'm going to guess you jiggled something when you were swapping the sensor.
I'm with ElMartillio - the sending unit should not affect engine performance. If I'm wrong I'd love to know though.

Yeah the old 'Mopar ONLY on the cam and crank sensors. I actually had bought a dontalast CAM sensor before the distributor change, and THAT failed in no time flat too. Turns out to be the same part they put in the distributors.

All I jiggled really were the wires from the oil pressure sending unit and I unhooked the camshaft position sensor to get better access, which I've done many times before) I guess there's no viable explanation, still unsolved. But hey, it's running smoothly other than some random jiggles and wiggles.

A vacuum gauge test will tell you if the cat is plugged.
