Default unknown grinding noise??

I'm having an issue when I accelerate from a stop. When I accelerate I get a loud grinding, almost sounds strained, sound. I can't pinpoint exactly where its coming from besides underneath me. Any help is much appreciated.

I'd take it somewhere they can raise it up and look underneath. Most places will tell you what's wrong for free.

I have the same problem. I've noticed it when there is a load (slight incline) or when I do a jack rabbit start. I can feel the vibration in the floor pans and about midrange in first it goes away. I've checked all my u joints, motor, trans mounts and they are nice and tight. I cannot pinpoint it either and I figure it will break on its own and then I will 100% know what it is. I will be following this post closely.

Have you tried recreating the noise in 4x4? I tried and could get my jeep to do it when it was in 4x4. Does that help anyone?

I'll have to see if it does it in 4x4 but I've inspected everything I know as well so I'll probably be taking it in soon especially if they will check it for free because I'm broke lol. If/when I take it in I'll make sure and post exactly what they tell me and how to fix it.

Driving around today I really payed attention to it it only does it when the transmission is in first gear as soon as it shifts to 2nd it stops I'm starting to think my gears are starting to get worn out. I'll update soon as I find out more unless anyone else has had this happen and knows what it is??

Exactly my problem, I don't think its the trans because its under stress and is trying to get up to speed. When it shifts into second its "releasing" alot of stress on the driveling (lower rpms). If you do get it looked at keep me updated please.

So jeep wouldn't start due to crankcase sensor and mech. said grinding doesn't sound too serious and to start by cleaning debris in the brakes and make sure everything is greased up if it gets worse I will have look through and inspect everything but right now it only grinds sometimes

Don't know if its the same issue or not but my 96 laredo did it for about 6 months after i bought it. Grinded bad on downshifts. Found the torque converter bolts were hitting the inspection cover. Found most of the bell bolts loose and 1 was missing. Couple of the cover bolts either missing or loose. Tightened everything up and its been fine ever since. Hope this helps you.
