Please make sure you use the right antifreeze! I have an 01 and my jeep was overheating from the green and yellow antifreeze. Ask the parts guy at a jeep dealership to look it up. And find out why it was taken out.......

......'cause he wanted to make a buck maybe? What was the explanation as to why green/yellow coolant would cause overheating?

I don't know the explanation. It was a parts manager and I did the change myself. I haven't had one issue with the overheating. So, the issue in my case was the type. I did notice the green I did add, was thinner than the red.

Still puzzled how color only could make a difference in cooling........would think red would be hotter, green cooler. LOL

Green is the color of jealousy, there making it run hotter LOL...... The red is th extend life anti freeze, supposedly better for the aluminum in the cooling system. Kinda like DexCool, I think ill stay with the green stuff, and changing the anti freeze color I dont think stopped the overheating problem alone it was probally time anyways for a drain-n-flush. Just my opinion.

Yeah. I don't know how true it is, but when I added red to it, I never had a problem. My jeep had less than 130,000 and was maintained. I'm thinking it is either a new engine or very very well maintained. But red worked for me. I just say ask around. My 89 took any of them... Thought my 01 would too! Same engine, just the coil on plugs instead of the cap and rotor.

I'm with u, I don't think color stopped overheating. These days virtually every antifreeze/coolant on the shelf is extended life 5yr/150k miles.....green, red, yellow, pink, blue, you name it. The XJ probably has the least amount of aluminum under the hood when compared to other vehicles it's age.

Like I said, it worked for mine. And I got it from my job at little cost. It fixed my 2week long issue!

Maybe it was just low on coolant and the proper level, not color, made the difference. Something else, besides the color of the coolant, changed.

Nope. Wasn't low. It was something with the heat and the antifreeze. It's ok now. I kept adding a bottle. Then when I asked, one time and it was fine after that. Idk if ,y engine is new. But it might have to do with something in it or really needed that type.
