Hello, I'm new to the forum and the proud new owner of a bright red 2000 cherokee (2 door). I need to find the wire for the under hood light and where to hook the light to the hood. I understand it was an option for jeeps and the wire is located somewhere under the hood.

Even if the wires are not there.. you could easily wire up some sweet lights in there with a small spring loaded button to turn off when compressed and vise versa.. just like your door jam switches for the interior lights.. Maybe if you like LED lights you can use those.. they require hardly any juice to run and they will work well under the hood..if you use enough.

 

yeah let me know what you do or what you find. cuz my jeep didnt come with any underhood lights either. i was just thinking of getting some stick on flashlight thing velcroed to the hood and i would just click it on just like the over head lights.

 

The wires are there in all the XJ's whether they had the light or not as it's a common wiring harness. There are a bunch of threads of "what is this plug" or "what does this plug go to" on here that are the underhood light plug. It's right above the blower motor on the passengers side firewall as freegdr said.

 

word of caution, the underhood light is also the cause of problems with the radio and dome lights. Being on the same circuit, when the underhood light breaks and shorts out, there goes the fuse...

The underhood light from a WJ is a much nicer unit.
