Default Under the hood + dummy bolts w/pics.

Was attempting to do my valve cover today. Turns out I didn't have all the necessary equipment. A deep socket.

I'm calling these dummy bolts, because to me, they seemed like a stupid idea.

Here we can see a Valve cover "dummy bolt"... Actually we can see two of them. No, I'm not leaking that much oil... I PB them.

Now the same bolt placed next to a standard valve cover bolt, off the same engine... I got this one off with a wrench. The rest, no such luck.

The distance from the head, to the tip is the same, as well as the thread count.

I know there is a wire cluster or two that attaches to these dummy bolts. Could the designers come up with no better idea though?

Also, I'm sure I can find the same real bolts elsewhere, they will probably be replaced. I will come more prepared next time.

Unrelated...

What is this? Looks like an evap emissions line... Plugged up.

Given the hose's diameter and proximity, plus the fact that it is right next to a hose nipple that is suspiciously cleaner than the cylinder it is attached to, I'd say it goes to the nipple on that round cylinder in your pic.

I know where it goes. Was curious as to why it was disconnected, and plugged. Hence... "Should I reconnect it?"

I'm not trying to be a smart a$$ or anything. But, Are you sure that you didn't take off the hose and plug it in for some reason? I'm just asking because like macgyver35 said. The nipple and the plug look really clean to have been like that for any extended amount of time???

The Jeep was just smoke tested...

I'm guessing ol' Tony forgot to plug this hose back in...

On that note; If it is indeed a canister for the differential, why would it have been taken off for a evap smoke test?

Diff hose is just a breather hose and doesn't connect to anything. I'm not sure what that canister is, have you traced the hose back to see where it goes?
