Default Ugly stripe the last owner put on, what to do to get rid of it?

Title says it all pretty much, last owner put this terrible racing stripe thing down the middle in black, I would love to have it white like it was again but I have no idea what to do and I am NOT ready to dump the cash on a real paint job. Any suggestions? Here's a pic....

machine polisher/buffer and some compound.

little bit of work but I bet it could be rubbed off.

just have to be really careful doing it.

You could also WET SAND it off, maybe using 2000 grit wet paper.

again just need to be careful doing it.

That's what I thought but I wasn't sure, it's already peeling in a lot of places so I don't think it will be bad.

Especially since it looks rattle-can'ed on in the first place.

at least try using rubbing compound first to get it off.

If that fails, paint it

Speaking of ugly stripes from the previous owners...
Here's the stripe mine had when I first got it. The stripe was made out of reflective material
