U joints?
Couldnt really find much about this so i figured id ask...The jeep runs fine in 2wd, no drivetrain noises or anything that could be related to the 4wd problem. Shifts into 4wd hi and lo fine but when i pull foward or reverse it makes a popping sound that kinda feels like its under my left foot...the noise becomes especially apparent when i turn the wheel hard either way.. any ideas?

Sounds like your on the right track. Get under there and check the front axle u joints!
Grab each side of the joint where the ears are and "twist" them in opposite directions. If theres ANY play replace them.
