U-bolt stripped, torque wrench specs?

Default U-bolt stripped, torque wrench specs?

OK, my U-bolt seems to be stripped out and im bout to go exchange it for a new one (not drivin the jeep there) What should i torque it to so i dont break it? I have a nice torque wrench and dont really know how to use it my dad will be using it. Thanks

I think it depends on the thickness and grade. When I did mine they were like (and dont quote me) 7/16ths thick Grade 5 and I think it was like 65 ft. pounds. The same thickness in grade 8 was like 190 ft. pounds.

Judging by this which I found this on a website maybe mine were 1/2" cause 65 ft. pounds sticks out in my mind.

3/8" 7/16" 1/2" 9/16" 5/8" 3/4" 7/8" 1" 1 1/8" 1 1/4"
30 45 65 90 125 300 480 730 1,300 1,740

Sorry, the specs aren't formatting very well. Like I said....I think 65 ft. lbs.

yup did that, SO glad i got this over with. Been driving around with a stripped U-bolt for over a month now, but it seems they were on pretty good as they wouldnt come off....so i took the sawzall to them lol.

i got my ubolts from advanced auto and i torqued them down to 150 you have to do it in increments it makes it easier

Just remember that as you're torquing it, you're actually stretching the bolt. You don't want to stretch it beyond it's specs. The fact that the bolt is being (or has been) stretched is why you shouldn't re-use them.
