TV Cable problem?
Hello, I’m new here and have a quick question. I’ve been troubleshooting my aw4 not shifting into overdrive (tc might not be locking).
I’ve started by doing a transmission drain and fill, changed the filter while it was drained. No change.
My next step was going to be adjusting the TV cable, then checking the TPS. Well, my TV Cable doesn’t adjust...I push the button, slide the black collar piece all the way back away from the throttle linkage, then release the button. When I open the throttle all the way, the collar doesn’t “ratchet” into place like I’ve always seen. It doesn’t move at all. The cable just slides out of the collar I moved, without adjusting it.
Why would this happen? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Can you pull the tube out with your fingers with the button depressed? If you can move it manually, it should lock wherever you leave it with the button released.
Yes, I can. When I push the button in, the tube slides normally, smooth. When the button is released, the tube is locked in. The only issue is that opening the throttle fully does not yank the tube into adjustment like 8’ve seen every video show. So I basically gave it my best guess and put the tube somewhere in the middle.
It doesn’t appear to have changed anything...
So I may have an update. I dug up a thread that seems to reference this same problem. It looks like some older TV cables don’t have that “ratchet” mechanism. Instead, you retract the plunger all the way while holding the button. Then you press and hold the release button, crank the throttle butterfly all the way open, then release the throttle (all the while holding the button!) You then release the button and the plunger stays locked there.
I’ll have to try this method, it doesn’t seem like it really adjusts the plunger. It seems like it just extended the plunger 100% when the throttle is opened.
