Default Key wont turn in the barrel

Hi guys

Ive got a 2000 JEEP XJ UK spec. I have a couple of issues I would like to sort out.

  • First is sometimes the key just won't turn. After a few smackes head on the key will turn and the Jeep starteds no problems. Question is, do I need to change the barrel or Ignition Switch Actuator pin or both?.
  • Second is sometimes once Ive got the Jeep started the internal electrics wont work Untill I wiggle the Ignition switch. Then all is good. Ive replaced the Ignition switch with a new one before but then nothing workeds. The car wont start, so I put the old one back in and very thing is ok. Untill I need to wiggle it abit to get the internal electrics to work. Whats going on ?
The Jeep is a 2000 4.0L Classic

Cheers for you help

Andy

I bought a new key cylinder. You can change the pins to fit your old key but I, like you, could not turn the old key out of the cylinder to get to the old pins. So now I have one key to turn the ignition and one key to unlock the doors.
