Default Turn Signal Switch Replacement

Today i broke the emergency flasher tab that sticks out from the top of the column. I know i need a new turn signal switch, my question is how difficult are they to install, will i need to take it to a shop or is it pretty simple? If i can do it myself, if someone could explain how to or link with a thread showing how that would be great. TIA

I just replaced the turn signal switch on my wife's Cherokee. Very easy. Just remove the 3 screws from the bottom half of the steering column. It's kind of a pain to sepetate the two pieces but it will seperate. After that, there are 3 screws that need to be removed. Two right on top of the switch and one on the bottom. After that just unplug the two connectors on the back. It was so much easier then I thought. I ended up getting an aftermarket one from Advance Auto Parts. Good luck. The hole thing took me 20 minutes.

Does anyone have input as to whether I should get a $40 aftermarket part from Oreileys or an OEM from the dealership for $70 or try my junkyard

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but I'm doing this right now and was wondering about the quality of aftermarket ones as well. I got a cheap one at NAPA, but it doesn't have the momentary bright option, I think somebody called it "flash to pass"? It also doesn't work nearly as smoothly as the stock one. I'm sure it will function, but nobody has been able to tell me which ones work exactly like the original.

The one I got from Autozone looks & works exactly like the one I took out.
It's a little stiffer turning the flashers on (hey, it's new ) but turn & headlight flash are smooth as silk.
