Default Turn Signal Problems

It seems when you have a 1998 Cherokee your fixing is never ending! My Turn Signals have stoped working. No light goes on when activating a turn. There is no outside side lights or front or rear lights lit when activating the turn switch. The Hazard Lights all work and I can hear the Flasher Clicking. I know this Flasher works for both the Turn and the Hazard Lights. I need help!!!! If it is determined that it is the switch how do I replace it and is it a Plug in type or cut and solder the wires?

if the switch is bad you need to pull the wheel and remove you wheel lock ring and replace you switch. It will plug in so no messing with it.

Thanks, I wish there was a way to determine if the switch is bad before I spend money on a new one?

You dont have to buy a new one, I had the same issue on the same year jeep and pulled the switch, opened it up, and cleaned all the contacts. Its a little tricky but better than paying the money they want for a new one, there is a write up somewhere on this forum I just can't find it right now.

The flashers are part of a multi-function relay...problem is its an old style relay most likely..it's a filament that heats up and cools off. They where out after a while..New ones work like an electric motor...replace it and see what happens..if it doesn't work then return it

Mine sat for 6-8 months unused before I bought it. I noticed the signals were a bit fussy early on, if you were too easy on the switch. I applied a bit more pressure when operating it, and noticed it worked quite a bit more reliably. I'd agree with the suggestion of cleaning the contacts, they appear to get dirty or a bit burnt. Use fine crocus cloth or fine emery cloth.
