Default Trying to remove manual shifter

Working on pulling my trans and I'm stuck on the shifter. I've searched through here and other forums and I haven't found a whole lot on the topic. I'm thinking maybe there's a difference on the newer cherokees and that's why the posts I've found don't seem to work. My Cherokee is a 2000. I can post a picture if that would help.

Some had a locknut just under the ****, and some had a screw under the shift pattern on the ****. I 'think' the newer had the latter?

Assuming it's manual since I got stuck on that on my TJ..

The NV3550 shifter is different than the AX-15. There are two holes on opposite sides and you need to put screws and nuts on each end..
It was a PITA for me as well.

It's 2 M6 x 1.0 bolts with nuts.

Put the nuts on the bolts almost all the way to the head.
Thread the bolts into the shifter so they are snug.
Tighten the nuts against the shifter and it will come off.

I used a liberal spraying of PB blaster up into it from the bottom and into each hole before doing so.

yep.

you can see the collar in the pic, it has the indent showing how you would push and turn the collar to unlock it, then the shifter just pulls out.

my tj's are the same.

For anyone trying to find this info in the future, On my transmission I had to do the 2 bolt method. On the newer TJ's ad XJ's with the NV3550 trans that seems to be the only way to remove the shifter. No amount of pushing down would allow me to break it free. My only other option would have been unbolting the shifter from the trans and those bolts did not look like they were going to come out. More rust there than bolt.
