What do you mean by clear plastic plug? I'm a little scared to start bypassing wires as I'm not really sure which one is power and which one is ground.

I have uploaded these photos showing all of the loose connection I have hanging around. I managed to get the headlights working 100% of the time but after putting the switch back together in the door they no longer work.... This is starting to get insane.

Note from DJ

Because you have so many problems; I want you to open the below information on your home computer.

See if a manual here helps you. http://cruiser54.com/?page_id=365

Because the 96 model Cherokee was a Chrysler Motor Co. transition year; the early 96 were the same as the 95’s. But the second generation 96 has a motor control system which is the same as the 97’s.

Even though you have a 96XJ the 95XJ manual is good for your body wiring so down load the link marked 95XJ and save.

Also look at your Power Control Center located next to the air cleaner box; if it only has one black connector you have an early model 96 and the 95 engine performance section will also apply to your 96. But if Power Control Center has three connector of different colors the you will also need to down load the 97XJ link and save.

Please post back how you made out with down loading this information so I can give you some help with how to work with the links.

Found the culprit.... No idea how I missed this the first go round. I backprobed from the power accessory jack following the tan wire (which stays tan all the way to the master switch, awful thoughtful of chrysler) until I got back to the door jam. Gave that wire a tug and out it came. It was dry and charred and had clearly been left that way for quite some time. I spliced a wire in for a test and all the windows work. They sound like a train coming to a halt but they work! I don't have any 30a wire handy so I can't button her back up but I will post a video when I do. Big thanks to dj for sticking with me!!
