Default Try to start and air sound

So had this issue for quite a while. Not every time, but sometimes when I turn the key to start, it will sound like it is going to start, then goes to a sound like air releasing. Usually, next time it starts right up. Had battery tested and no problem at all there. I've searched the Internet but I keep getting where it won't crank or cranking with air conditioning on.

Anybideas? Seems like it may eventually become a problem.

Have a 2000 xj, 4.0 4x4 limited edition. Automatic.

Sounds like the starter is sticking.

Could just be the engine still rotating a few times after releasing starter. If I'm thinking of the same sound as you're describing.

I would check your ground connections as well as your connection to the starter solenoid. May have some resistance there not allowing the starter to get all the amps it needs.
