I'm new to the site, I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee I bought used, with 69000 miles on it, that has 74000 miles on the odometer now, it has a rebuilt title and who knows what its history has been. I have been having increasing difficulty turning the ignition key, now it won't turn to the acc. position, and sometimes sticks in the start position... is this a common problem and if so is there a fix other than replacing the assembly? I would appreciate any help on this...

It is a fairly common problem, when this occurs have you tried turning the steering wheel while turning the key?

I had this problem on a 84 s10 and it was a combination of a worn key and a worn ignition key cylinder. Had to replace to fix
