Greetings all. My son purchased a 1999 Cherokee Sport, 6 cyl, 4wd about a year ago. It has 100k miles on it. He had not had any problems with it until a week ago. He took it out on the beach. Total driving time was about 10 minutes, just long enough to park, enjoy beach and return. It would not stay in 4wd and now it seems it is not shifting into high gear. I rode with him and had him to shift manually. 1-2 is fine, 3 is fine, but would not shift into D.

Any ideas?

Check your linkage under the heep, often enough they will get out of adjustment and not work properly.

I dont know of an internet writeup on that, if somebody else does please post it. But I would recommend getting a Chiltons/Haynes manual for your heep. They are cheap and will help you out more times then you can shake a stick at.
