Tried everything, please help
I'm not entirely new to Cherokees, but am new to CF.
Anyways, the old girls a 93 sport, major overheating! All the parts on her seem to be in great shape, water pumps pumpin, rad is clean, t-stat is not stuck.
When ya take her out, shell idle all day long at 190, get her on the highway, it starts goin hot, bout 210 then 220, but as soon as you slow down, it skyrockets, never extremely dangerous, but definitely in the red.
I have made sure there was no air in the system, and am wondering if a head gasket could be to blame, but there is no lack of performance like that would normally cause.
Please help, I will solve this problem if it kills me!!!

Are the BOTH cooling fans working correctly? Is it Auto Tranny? Is the fluid Good? Is it open or closed cooling system, PICS. Is there oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil?

Is it loosing any water? Is the radiator cap LESS than 2 years old? ow old is the radiator. It might have clean fluid in it but still be plugged up. Are the fins CLEAR?

Thanks for the replys, it does have a rad cap, it's not very old at all, there are no appearent water leaks, i believe it would be something serious because if radiator restriction or dirty cooling components were the prob, it would at least cool a little

My initial thoughts were water pump, because if it started to get warm in city style driving, the temp would fall when under acceleration, so I am changing it, even though it appears to be pumping, I hope that will be the problem, but i was really hoping someone knows of one of them off the wall problems that cause this type of dilemma.

Sounds to me like one of your two fans isnt working... You will not always notice because the noise of the other one tricks you....
I had the same issue with my 91 xj.... the fan wasnt even broken, it just needed some wd40 and it came back to life.

The fan works fine.
The problem was i haven't had it long, turn out the sender to the gauge was the culprit, and the PO ha d put in too high pressure of a rad cap.
I had taken it on a good length ride when it started blowing off out the thermostat housing, new cap and a electric temp gun shows problem solved, never got over 200 the whole time the gauge was showin 260!!
Temp gun, best 30 bucks I ever spent at Autozone.
