I recently got a 96 Cherokee sport and it starts up fine and runs but when put in gear it will drive if gas is kept applied it will move as soon as throttle is let off a little forward motion stops if I press the gas again it will move again you can hear what I assume is the torque converter reengaging tried tps not it

 

Have you checked the trans fluid level and color?
