Transmission swap...HELP
I have a 1996 cherokee with a 5-speed manual tranny and i want to know what i would have to do in order to put an automatic in it. Have no idea how hard it would be and what all i need to get from a donor vehicle....

for auto, you will need a torque converter matched to the auto tranny, driveshafts, flywheel, possibly new CPS, wire harness and transmission control unit (TCU), shifter, linkage, and so it looks nice a new center console. you should be able to get away with the original steering column to keep things simple.
the one thing that comes to mind, an auto has a key lock for the shifter, but you should be good not having to worry about that. it just may be able to start in gear and able to shut off and pull the key out without being in park.
