Default transmission swap

i have an 88 jeep cherokee with a 5 speed, and i was wondering if i can take the transmission off with out disconnecting the hydrolics? i need to do a transmission swap cause i got mud in mine and it destroyed it, so my brother gave me his old 5-speed and i am putting that in there. i am gonna cover up the breather hole as well. i was wondering if i could do this without disconnecting the internal slave so i dont have to buy a new one. also do i have to crack my transfer case open (which is fine) to check for mud, or should i just change the oil in it?

Change the oil in the t-case. Don't block off the breather hole. It's needed. You can install a tube and run a hose up to the motor where the axle breather is. You won't suck in water that way. I had to do that with my 3 spd in my TJ cuz the breather was so low and always sucked in water. In order to do a tranny swap you need to disconnect everything that's ON the transmission to pull it out.
