Transmission sounds like it is thumping up the hill!
I have a 1996 Cherokee Sport with 105k miles on it. When I am driving on the highway and flat roads I do not notice any problems shifting. But, when I go to drive up a steady incline or hill and I am on the gas for an extended period of time and the car needs to down-shift since the RPM's are dropping too low the car starts thumping several times. I have to physically remove my foot from the pedal and hit the gas hard for it to down-shift to get up the hill. It does it pretty often. The transmission fluid was just flushed and this did not make the problem go away. Anyone have any ideas as to what might be the problem?
Thanks
Thanks
I had the same problem occuring only when i was driving uphill. My check engine light would also turn on for about a day then go back out. I ran the code and it came up as my Throttle Position Sensor. Once i replaced the throttle position sensor ($30) the downshifting problems went away.
