Transmission? Shift linkage?
Hello guys,
My 87 waggy, 4.0 4WD just presented with odd symptoms. It revved up uncontrollably and almost overloaded the brakes. I was able to get it into park and that's where things went wonky. After it was in Park, I turned it off, then restarted. Now it shifts through all the gears per the shifter with no resiatance, but never changes gear from Park.
Also, I have been having high idle issues. Replaced IAC a few days ago, but no luck. Connections are refreshed and clean. Vacuum gauge shows no issues. TPS was in spec a few months ago, but have not re-verified.
Had it towed in, but wanted to see what would cause this behavior.
Thanks in advance!

Fair point!
As it turned out, the shift linkage had fallen off. The shop fixed it before it was off the tow truck and didn't charge. Very nice of them.
Curiously, the jeep is showing no high idle at all after several stop and go trips. Any thoughts as to why? Coincidence, or would the shift linkage effect the idle?
