Default Transmission problems?

I own a 1996 jeep cherokee xj and when you take off its fine but as soon as it shifts the rpms drop below 1 grand and it tries to stall out and doesnt move very good anyone know what it could be?

It could possibly be a transmission solenoid has gone bad, #2 by the sounds. If it ends up being #2 then it is doing this while changing gears:
1st - 1st
2nd - 1st
3rd - OD
OD - OD

If you use the shifter manually, does it work going from 1-2, to 3 then D?

You should check the fluid level of the transmission which requires it to be up to operating temp (15 mile drive), run through P, R, N, D, N, R, P and check the fluid level on the stick.

To check the solenoids you can quickly and easily probe a few pins on the transmission harness in the engine bay, you are looking for between 11-15 ohms. Pin F I suspect will read OL or 1.

If i put it in 1-2 on the column it still will take off fine but as soon as it shifts it goes under 1 grand rpm and will bog down if i put it into 3rd on the column as that is happening it goes in takes a minute for the Rpms to go up and then if i shift it into drive after that it will bog down again and almost want to stall

It doesn't sound solenoid related then if it's still doing it manually. Other than checking the fluid level, I don't know what more I could suggest.

I would have thought it's unrelated.
