Default Transmission Problems 1991 Cherokee Laredo

Hi,

Today I noticed the transmission on my 1991 Jeep Cherokee Laredo was sluggish, when I would put it in gear and push on the accelerator, it would take a few seconds before the transmission would engage. I checked the transmission fluid level and the dipstick wasn't even wet. I added a half a quart transmission fluid and still didn't register. I added another half a quart and same thing. Then I looked underneath the vehicle and noticed all the fluid I had added had leaked out. It looked to be coming from the front part of the engine, but I couldn't see exactly where it was coming from. If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate some assistance. Thanks!

sounds like your transmission cooler lines are leaking most likely were the rubber meets the metal, mine started leaking like a sieve is just cut the crimps off and used new hose and hose clamps, the lines run from the transmission then along the passenger side of the oil pan to the radiator, you can check those first to see if that is your leak

You are checking it warm idling in park. Suppose you know, you don't want to be driving it around slipping and low on fluid. You don't want to end up in the "I toasted my trany" thread.

Thanks. That's the area that it looks to be leaking from. Wish it wasn't winter here, I would try working on it myself. I am going to have a transmission shop check it out. Hopefully the trans isn't shot.

I've used a car-wash bay in bad weather, just to look. Good luck, keep the fluid up in the meantime.
