You are going to lose 4-5 quarts of atf when u drop the pan and replace the filter. If it was me and i had an extra trans, i would swap it, put the new filter in the new trans and refill with new atf and call it a day. Anything you put in the old one cannot be reused because it will be contaminated with water.
