Default Transmission problem. please look

My 98 jeep cherokee classic has just recently started this thing where either it wants to or does not want to go into o/d. For instance i could drive thirty miles to work and have o/d but halfway back home i no longer have o/d. What could this be? Even sometimes in town i either have it or i dont. Opinions and advice would help alot guys thanks

Maybe bad switch or solenoid & I would read codes if any. If fluid low, it might slip.
