Default Transmission Problem

Alright guys, I got a small problem with my transmission...when I'm driving, it sometimes won't shift into 4th gear. For example, if I start my jeep now and drive, when it hits 45 mph it will shift into 4th normal, but if I turn it off and restart it and drive and hit 45, it will not shift into 4th, if This makes sense, I would like to know what's wrong and what I can do to fix this! Thanks guys!! Also, the neutral safety switch is brand new, installed correctly and everything, and the tranny fluid is new, thanks again..

Did you put in Dextron 3/Mercon transmission fluid or ATF4? Check out cruiser's tips on checking the TPS

4th gear or the TCC lockup? TCC locks at about 45 MPH, you see a 300 RPM drop when it happens.

That's what I'm wondering.

If the brake switch at the pivot point of the pedal is out of adjustment, it can tell the tCU to not lock the converter.

I didn't do the fluid myself, I took it to our local jiffy lube and they did it, I don't remember what they put in it either, but yeah it'll hit 45 mph and not lock into 4th

Not sure if your 99's switch looks like this, but take a peek up there and see.

I would ask JiffyLube which fluid they used.

Anyway, LOL.

You wanna make sure the brake pedal is pushing the white pin all the way in to the switch when it's in the "up" position, not being depressed.

Same function but not adjustable after initial installation.

Here's how a '99 brake lamp switch is installed. It says to pull the plunger all the way out but that's the way they come new. Never push in on the plunger because you cannot pull it backout.
